History comes alive with Maryland Humanities’ FREE Chautauqua living history performance series each July. Audience members meet historical figures then participate in a thoughtful dialogue with each character. Chautauqua 2018 honors a continuing search for justice with three characters: Frederick Douglass, an abolitionist and orator; Eleanor Roosevelt, a first lady and human rights advocate; and Thurgood Marshall, a civil rights activist and first African American Supreme Court Justice.

Maryland Humanities is a statewide, educational nonprofit organization that creates and supports educational experiences in the humanities that inspire all Marylanders to embrace lifelong learning, exchange ideas openly, and enrich their communities.
