Painted Pages: Illuminated Manuscripts, 13th – 18th Centuries is an exhibition of more than 30 framed folios from European, Persian, Armenian, and Hebrew manuscripts.
This exhibition explores the golden age of handmade books, some of which employed elaborate gold leaf decoration and intricate ornament. The exhibition includes examples from medieval European Bibles, prayer books, psalters, books of hours, choir books, missals, breviaries, and lectionaries. A display of artist’s materials—gold leaf, parchment, vellum, and mineral pigments—is also featured in the exhibit.
Painted Pages: Illuminated Manuscripts, 13th-18th Centuries is organized by the Reading Public Museum, Reading, Pennsylvania and will be on view from November 4, 2017 – January 28, 2018, Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. (Closed Mondays).
