Painted Pages: Illuminated Manuscripts, 13th – 18th Centuries is an exhibition of more than 30 framed folios from European, Persian, Armenian, and Hebrew manuscripts.

This exhibition explores the golden age of handmade books, some of which employed elaborate gold leaf decoration and intricate ornament. The exhibition includes examples from medieval European Bibles, prayer books, psalters, books of hours, choir books, missals, breviaries, and lectionaries.  A display of artist’s materials—gold leaf, parchment, vellum, and mineral pigments—is also featured in the exhibit.

Painted Pages: Illuminated Manuscripts, 13th-18th Centuries is organized by the Reading Public Museum, Reading, Pennsylvania.


4 to 7 PM: Joint opening reception for both “Painted Pages” and “HENSE” exhibitions. Refreshments in the atrium.

4 to 5 PM: Art Activity- Paint Skateboard Decks inspired by HENSE, and  Gold Embossed Lettering inspired by Painted Pages.

5:30 Curator, Daniel Fulco will give a Gallery Talk of the Painted Pages: Illuminated Manuscripts, 13th – 18th Centuries Exhibition

6:15 Alex Brewer (HENSE) is the creator of the “Mural of Unusual Size” on the Cultural Trail will give a brief gallery talk.
