The Spirit of Jazz & Democracy fall residency at St. Mary’s College of Maryland features interactive lectures, performances, workshops, and master classes designed to inspire free-thinking, democratic engagement, and positive social and political progress.

Master jazz musicians Paul F. Murphy (drums) and Larry Willis (piano), poet Jere Carroll, jazz historian and drummer Dominic Fragman, ‘07, and philosopher Sybol Anderson close the series with a concert featuring guest performances by selected workshop participants. Performances demonstrate the series themes of spirit, jazz, democracy, and innovation, and guest artists will describe what they’ve learned through the series. Guest artists may perform jazz, other music, poetry, movement, or other modes of expression.
