The Smithsonian traveling exhibition Water/Ways makes it last stop at Calvert Library in Prince Frederick for six weeks, from January 25 to March 6, 2020. See it during regular library hours. The exhibition explores the centrality of water in our lives including its effect on the environment and climate, its practical role in agriculture and economic planning and its impact on culture and spirituality. In addition, experience Calvert County’s local water story told through video, music and poetry courtesy of a variety of special guests such as Patuxent Voices.

Southern Maryland “Water Ways” Art & Poetry (Ages 15+) Nine (9) pieces of art will be on display on 3-sided screens at Calvert Library Prince Frederick from January 3, 2020 to January 24, 2020 (possibly longer). These pieces are all done by Southern Maryland artists and are water-themed. You are invited to submit a poem inspired by one of these pieces of art.

Submission guidelines

Southern Maryland “Water Ways” Art & Poetry (All Ages) You are invited to post a poem inspired by the art, the exhibit or your own “Water/Ways” story. The library will provide scrap paper for you to draft your poem and when you’ve got the words just right, there is nice card stock for you to neatly write out your final version. Bring your final piece to the circulation desk and a librarian will get you registered and your poem posted.  Your poem will remain posted for others to enjoy until February 12. The library will then scan them to create a book for the library collection.  If you want your poem back, you will need to pick it up by March 6.

Water/Ways is part of Museum on Main Street, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Maryland Humanities.

From Western Maryland to the lower Eastern Shore, our state is rich with water: it’s part of our history, our culture, our future. Maryland H2O shines the spotlight on it, through Maryland Humanities’ Museum on Main Street tour of the traveling exhibit Water/Ways, the Smithsonian exhibition H2O Today, and engaging programs to spark a statewide discussion about water.

This event is listed as part of Maryland Humanities’ Maryland H2O initiative and #ValueWater programming.

Maryland Humanities is a statewide, educational nonprofit organization that creates and supports educational experiences in the humanities that inspire all Marylanders to embrace lifelong learning, exchange ideas openly, and enrich their communities.
