Maryland’s “Great Reads from Great Places” Author Event
August 26 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
In partnership with the Library of Congress and the 2026 National Book Festival, join us for this “Festival Near You” virtual author talk to celebrate Maryland’s “Great Reads from Great Places.”
Lisa D. Brathwaite is author of the youth pick Miles of Style: Eunice W. Johnson and the EBONY Fashion Fair. Elizabeth Evitts Dickinson is author of the adult pick Claire McCardell: The Designer Who Set Women Free. The two will meet to discuss race and feminism’s impact on American fashion culture through the 20th Century.
This event is hosted by the Maryland Center for the Book, a program of Maryland Humanities. The program is a part of the 2026 National Book Festival by the Library of Congress, and is supported by the Institute for Museum of Library Services, the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Registration is free but required.
