One Maryland One Book: “The Soundtrack of Belonging” Writing Workshop
Every great song holds a memory. Whether it’s a track that reminds you of growing up, a melody that ties you to your hometown, or an album that got you through a specific era of your life, music shapes who we are.
Join us for a unique, guided personal essay workshop inspired by this year’s One Maryland One Book selection, No Sense in Wishing: Essays on Black Music, Belonging, and Baltimore by Lawrence Burney.
In this workshop, you will choose 2 to 3 songs that hold a special meaning for you or connect you to the places you call home. Learn how to use music as a lens to write your own short personal reflections on identity, memory, and belonging. Discover how local sounds and personal histories interweave, using Burney’s essay collection as our guide.
No professional writing experience is necessary, just bring your love for music and a desire to share your story! Pre-registration is required.
