What does it mean to be an engaged citizen, and how can young people help shape the future of their communities?
Join Maryland Humanities and the Maryland Two Fifty Commission for a dynamic conversation about civic engagement, democracy, and the power of public participation. As part of the Civics Moonshot: A Maryland Two Fifty Youth Engagement Initiative, this panel brings together local and state leaders, civic advocates, and Montgomery College students to explore the importance of civic participation and the many ways individuals can make a difference in their communities.
Through an engaging, student-centered discussion, panelists will share their experiences in public service, community leadership, and civic advocacy while exploring the opportunities and challenges facing Marylanders today. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange perspectives, and consider their own roles in shaping a more engaged and inclusive democracy.
As Maryland commemorates the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, this conversation invites the next generation of civic leaders to reflect on our democratic legacy and envision the future they want to help create.
Panelists include:
- Delegate Marc Korman , Esq., Maryland House of Delegates, District 16
- Eliza Carney, Founder and President, The Civic Circle
- Erin O’Connor, Esq., Chief Counsel and Staff Director, Montgomery County Ethics Commission
- Selena Mendy Singleton, Esq., Senior Racial Equity Manager, Office of the Montgomery County Council
- Sheena Foster, Chair, Montgomery County Commission for Women
This event is presented by Maryland Humanities in partnership with the Maryland Two Fifty Commission and Montgomery College.
