One Maryland One Book Discussion: No Sense in Wishing

October 22 @ 5:30 pm6:30 pm

Join us for a thoughtful discussion of the 2026 One Maryland One Book selection, No Sense in Wishing: Essays on Black Music, Belonging, and Baltimore, by Lawrence Burney. The book was selected under the 2026 theme of “REVOLUTION, REACTION, REFORM,” seeking stories that highlight moments of change and transformation.

Released in 2025, the book is an essay collection from culture critic Lawrence Burney that is a personal and analytical look at his home city of Baltimore, music from throughout the global Black diaspora, and the traditions that raised him. Together, we’ll explore the book’s themes of identity, belonging, place, and the power of music to connect generations and cultures.
